3. Parenting Scheme 2012-2013

Dear CUMaS members,

It is the time of the year when we officially welcome another batch of freshers into our CUMaS family!
We will be trying something very different this year that is CUMaS members will have the option to choose their respective “wives” or “husbands”. My job here is to monitor the selection process and allocate spouses to those who are happy for me to assign a husband/wife for them. I will also allocate the kids to these parents according to subject/college if possible. The fun part is that you may choose to propose to your prospective husband/wife however you wish. However there are some terms and conditions i.e.:

  1. No gay/homosexual marriages (if possible)
  2. Members should try to pair up with members from other colleges and/or subject, so that it will be easier for me to allocate kids
  3. Choosing parents outside of your respective cliques (if any) are encouraged
  4. Marriages should not be based on pre-existing relationships.

Please note that those who sign up for the parenting scheme are responsible for the welfare of their respective families, especially that of their kids – which includes welcoming and always checking up on their kids, meeting up with their families and being a friend/help where needed.

So, if you are interested in becoming parents for the incoming freshers, start spouse-hunting now and please sign up by 15th of July 2012 using this form: bit.ly/CUMaSParents12

(Only one person from each “marriage” is required to fill in the form)

If there are any enquiries, feel free to email our Welfare Officer, Stephanie, at welfare [at] cumas.org.

4. Ethos Business Brain Olympics 2012

Ethos & Company is holding an intensive inter-university business plan competition among more than 20 of the best universities in the UK, USA, Australia and Malaysia. We are looking for highly motivated and capable teams of 3 undergraduates (in their penultimate year or below) or post graduates to develop and showcase a compelling business plan. Short-listed teams will participate in a 3 day management consulting training in Kuala Lumpur, at the end of which they will present their business plans to a panel of judges and leading corporate figures in Malaysia. Winning teams will receive media coverage and prize money of RM7,500 and RM4,500 for 1st and 2nd place respectively.

This is a unique opportunity for students to experience what it is like to be a management consultant, and to sharpen their business acumen and interview skills. Participants will have two full days of training on consulting techniques and coaching to refine their business plan presentations.

This message is a brief introduction to the Ethos Business Brain Olympics and the application process.

Application Process
Interested applicants should send the complete application form including short essay and team CVs to brainolympics [at] ethos.com.my by 6 pm, Kuala Lumpur Time, on 14th June 2012. Finalists will be notified by End June – Early July 2012. Please note that only shortlisted candidates and finalists will be notified. Should you require any further clarification, do contact our organising team at brainolympics [at] ethos.com.my.

[Ethos Business Brain Olympics 2012 – Extension of submission deadline

Thank you to the teams who have submitted your essays – way before the deadline. From our initial review of current submissions, we have been really impressed by the quality, specificity and implementability of some of your ideas. Truly, it will be a difficult task to pick our eventual finalists!

We have also had tremendous response from many of you who say you would like to join this competition, but have requested that we extend the deadline for essay submissions, given that you are preparing and sitting for exams. You will be happy to know that we are doing just that. The amount of effort required to write a quality summary of a business plan is substantial, so we are extending the deadline to Thursday, June 14, 2012. Hopefully this will give you enough time to complete and submit your essays. For teams who have already submitted their essays, but would like to use the seven weeks’ extension to polish or update them, you are welcome to do so.

In addition, for participants who are facing difficulties putting together a team with members from the same university, we will now also consider teams comprised of members from different universities on a case by case basis. Do email us at brainolympics [at] ethos.com.my if you have any enquiries regarding this.]
